R&B singer Deborah Cox will star alongside Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages) in Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden’s new production of the musical Jekyll & Hyde. Cox, playing Lucy, and Maroulis, as Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde, will make their way to Broadway for a limited engagement in April 2013 following a 25-week national tour launching this October.

Jekyll & Hyde is the story of a London doctor who accidentally unleashes his evil alternate personality while trying to cure his father’s mental illness. It first opened on Broadway in April 1997, with Linda Eder as Lucy and Robert Cuccioli in the dual leading role for which he earned a Tony nomination. Before it played its final performance in January 2001, replacements included rocker Sebastian Bach in his Broadway debut and David Hasselhoff.

Oh-so-long ago in that magical decade we fondly label as AWKWARD — the ‘90s — The Great White Way housed the schizophrenic sensation: Jekyll & Hyde.
The musical version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which had a 4-year Broadway run rife with accolades and awards, is set to RETURN to the Manhattan city lights in 2013, following a 25-week national tour.

Grammy nominee Deborah Cox is confirmed to play Lucy, the leading lady and love interest of Constantine Maroulis’ (remember…from American Idol??) character(s) Jeckyll & Hyde.

The show will feature all the original music, but has been completely re-envisioned by two-time Oscar winner, Emmy winner and four-time Tony Award Nominee Leslie Bricusse, and will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award Nominee Jeff Calhoun.

Ooo!!! We hope it’s deliciously dark and fun, fun, fun! We have been jonesing for some classic broadway cheekiness!!

The long-awaited No Labels Anthem is now featured in the iTunes Music Store and available for purchase for 99 cents. Written by Grammy award-winning platinum artist Akon and performed by Grammy-nominated platinum artist Deborah Cox, the song’s proceeds will help fund No Labels, a citizens’ movement of Democrats, Republicans and Independents by empowering our leaders to work across the aisle. Recently, No Labels launched its Make Congress Work! action plan, which features a dozen common sense proposals to combat the gridlock and hyperpartisanship that make it virtually impossible to deal with America’s serious challenges.

“When I told Akon about No Labels, he was so inspired that he stayed up all night to write this song,” said No Labels co-founder Lisa Borders. “The No Labels Anthem speaks to our fellow citizens of every persuasion who are not being served by a partisan, dysfunctional Congress. We want our leaders to work together – like the words and melody of this iconic song – to do what’s best for the ‘indivisible’ United States of America.”

“The No Labels mission moved me to get involved and perform this song,” said Cox, who has 11 number-one Billboard dance singles. “To citizens like me, Congress is like an orchestra where every member is trying to play their instrument louder than the next. That makes for bad music and its made for bad government. Our leaders need to put aside their differences and work together for the good of the country.”

The No Labels Anthem debuts on the day of the president’s State of the Union address, where over 196 members of Congress will be sitting with members of the opposite party. No Labels has made bipartisan seating at the State of the Union and all joint meetings of Congress one of the 12 proposals in its Make Congress Work! action plan.

The musical is based on the acclaimed novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, about a London doctor who accidentally unleashes his evil alternate personality in his quest to cure his father’s mental illness.

JEKYLL & HYDE was first introduced as a concept album in 1990 featuring Colm Wilkinson and Linda Eder, and shortly thereafter had its world premiere at the Alley Theatre in Houston starring Chuck Wagner as Jekyll/ Hyde and Linda Eder as Lucy.  Following a 30-city National Tour, the Broadway production opened at The Plymouth Theatre on April 28, 1997 and earned four Tony Award nominations.  Directed by Robin Phillips and choreographed by Joey Pizzi, the production starred Robert Cuccioli, who earned a Tony Nomination as well as Joseph Jefferson, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards for his portrayal of Jekyll/ Hyde, Linda Eder, who won the Theatre World Award for her Broadway debut, as Lucy and Christianne Noll as Emma Carew.  After 1543 performances, and featuring such replacements as Sebastian Bach and David Hasselhoff in the title role, the production played its final performance on January 7, 2001.    The show’s popularity catapulted well beyond the Great White Way and, within the subsequent decade of its world premiere, JEKYLL & HYDE became an international sensation with multiple tours in the UK and North America, and over a dozen recordings from Germany, Spain, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Japan and South Korea, among others.

A pre-tour preview engagement of JEKYLL & HYDE will be presented at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in La Mirada, California from September 7-30, 2012.

DEBORAH COX (Lucy) A multi-platinum selling and a multi-talented entertainer, Cox has conquered the R&B and pop charts, including six top-20 Billboard R&B singles, an impressive eleven #1 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart and the lead role in Elton John and Tim Rice’s Broadway musical, Aida.  While singing with Celine Dion, Cox was discovered by the infamous Clive Davis and instantly signed to Arista records. Her gold selling debut album Deborah Cox was released in 1995.  In 1998 she followed up with the release of her second CD One Wish.  From this CD came the double platinum “Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here” which held the record for being the longest running #1 R&B Single for 14 consecutive weeks and earned her a Lady of Soul and a Soul Train Award. In 2000 Deborah collaborated with Whitney Houston to record the duet “Same Script Different Cast” for her Greatest Hits CD.  Her third album, “The Morning After” was released in 2002 with “Up & Down (In & Out)” co-written with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. In 2003, her fourth album “Remixed” was released featuring her Billboard chart topping dance remixes. In 2012, Deborah garnered her 11th number one Billboard Dance single with “If It Wasn’t For Love”.   In addition to roles in both film and television, Deborah also released her fifth album, a Grammy nominated tribute album “Destination Moon” to the legendary Dinah Washington in 2007 (Universal).
